We’ve been working with homelessness charity, Thames Reach, for almost two years now. The partnership began in 2015 to celebrate our 125th anniversary, and has made a big difference to many Thames Reach service users.
The Hard to Reach fund
One of our first actions was to help the charity set up their Hard to Reach fund, which provides small grants to get people back on track. That might be a week’s travel pass or a second-hand bike, to get them to a job as they wait for their first wages; or books and course fees to help them train for a new role.
Work experience and support
Many of our teams have been helping Thames Reach service users gain work experience and placements, including with some of our suppliers and contractors. We helped provide administrative work experience for a Thames Reach volunteer, Claire, who spent a month with our customer service and neighbourhood teams.
We’ve also helped with a work programme for homeless under 25-year-olds in Manchester. Working with Depaul UK, the week-long course built confidence and helped them gain life and work skills, with visits to local employers and practical workshops, as well as ongoing support with individual mentors.
We’re looking forward to doing even more in partnership with Thames Reach in 2017.
