We’re delighted that 124 colleagues have recently become Dementia Friends. We now have 374 staff Dementia Friends.
In our Havant office, two teams took part in special introductory session and everyone signed up to become a Dementia Friend. And 89 of our customer service centre team have also joined, which is fantastic.
Dementia Friends at home and work
Interim facilities project manager, Leon Tricker, is one of the new recruits:
“My wife’s aunt is living with dementia and family members are often worried about her, or at times get frustrated. The Dementia Friends session helps me to help them have a better understanding of dementia. The session was lively and engaging, and a great opportunity to focus on an issue that goes to the heart of Guinness’s social purpose – I’d definitely recommend it to anyone.
“The most important thing I learnt was that people living with dementia feel emotions long after the memory of an event is forgotten. So, my wife’s aunt may not remember the day she spent with us at the beach, but she will still feel happy.”
Our housing and dementia project
There are around 1,000 older people with dementia living in our homes or receiving our care services. As part of our housing and dementia project we’re aiming to train 500 staff Dementia Friends, so we can help our customers live well and keep their independence for as long as possible.
